Where are you located? Can I visit your facility for a tour?

We are located in northwestern Washington State, approximately 75 miles north of Seattle.

We welcome selected clients and prospects to prearrange a visit to discuss your product lines and how we can best serve your needs. Our staff will do all we can to ensure you have a successful meeting. As we are not open for retail sales, and make all our fragrances to-order, unplanned drop-in visitors are discouraged. If you are an existing customer and plan to be in our area, ask your Customer Service agent about scheduling a visit.

Why don't you have a printed catalog?

For two primary reasons:  First, we have a range of thousands of different fragrances designed for dozens of different applications. As an example, we have over one hundred lemon fragrances, formulated to suit different products and budgets. A catalog which explained the properties of every single formulation would be enormous and far too complicated to be useful.  Secondly, our Perfumers are constantly developing new fragrances. By the time a catalog was assembled, edited, printed and distributed, it would be out of date.

We do provide category-specific product price listings to customers and qualified prospective clients. This practice keeps our costs down, while providing business-specific information that is more useful than a generic product catalog. When you contact us, be sure to ask your Customer Service agent for assistance in choosing the right fragrances. Chances are, we have something that fits perfectly into your product lines.

Why do you want to know so much about my company, like who I buy oils from, the volume, and prices I normally pay per pound? That's rather personal, isn't it?

We aren't trying to pry into your affairs. We already know who is selling fragrance oils, and how they conduct their business. If we have a clear idea of your purchasing experience and history, it helps us assist you in making appropriate choices among our many products. Your candid answers allow us to provide you with much better customer service. And that saves both of us time and money.

We have many, many fragrance oils in our library, and they are not all the same. Some are the ultimate in extreme high-quality, containing lots of sophisticated, very expensive or all-natural ingredients, which command a very high price. Other fragrances are quite modest in design and price, created for a target product or specific price point. Most of our fragrances are found somewhere in between, carefully balancing quality and usefulness. Our pricing is tied directly to the cost to manufacture a given oil, regardless of how sophisticated or modest the oil may be. The selling price is the total of whatever the component ingredients add up to be.

We want to provide our customers with the right oil at the right price. If you're used to paying $8.00 a pound for a fragrance oil, you're not likely to be interested in buying $50.00 a pound fragrances. Similarly, if your taste and budget expects $50.00 a pound fragrance oils, there is no need to waste your time with an $8.00 a pound fragrance - it won't be able to compete with the higher-level oils you're used to. By focusing on the range of products and prices that fit within your budget and experience, we can provide you with the best possible product choices.

We ask about buying volume and where you've been purchasing your fragrance oils so we have a better understanding of the quality of oil you've been getting. Is yours a very high-volume company, or do you only buy occasionally? Have you been buying 400-pound drum quantities of an oil, where pricing is deeply discounted for higher quantity purchases, or do you buy a few oils now and then by the ounce? Have you been buying from a fragrance manufacturer or from a reseller? We want you to get the best oils available for the best price you can - no more, no less - and we want to treat you right. It's all in the name of providing you with excellent customer service.

What are your minimum dollar and quantity requirements to place an order?

Unlike some companies, we do not have a dollar minimum to place an order, nor do we add an arbitrary surcharge to orders that are below a certain amount. The majority of our oils can be purchased in as small as a one-pound quantity. For those oils, your order can be just that single pound. As a cost-savings to the customer, we offer excellent price discounts per-pound at the five, ten, and twenty-five pound levels of any oil. If you need higher volumes than twenty-five pounds at a time, be sure to ask for current pricing at those levels. In general, our best discounts are available when purchasing twenty-five pounds of a fragrance.

Our labor costs are fixed, whether we make five pounds or fifty pounds of an oil, and we pass that savings directly to our customers who purchase a larger quantity of an oil. When comparing purchases of five pounds or twenty-five pounds of a fragrance, the per-pound price savings on the larger quantity can be as much as 30%. We discourage a customer from "over buying" any oil, due to changes that occur when storing oils for extended periods of time, but we also want to provide the best opportunity for the best savings on your fragrance oil investment.

Our candle fragrance oils require a five pound minimum purchase per fragrance. That is due to our company making our oils "to-order," at the time your order is placed. Candlemakers tend to consume fragrance oils so fast, they'd be reordering them daily or weekly if they were buying them in smaller amounts. Some of our compounded fragrances take a week or more to produce, due to aging requirements and manufacturing issues, so establishing that ordering minimum saves everyone time and unnecessary expense.

We have recently seen an increased demand for so-called Designer Oils. These are fragrance oils that approximate the aroma of popular scents sold around the world. Many designer-type oils contain high amounts of very unusual essential oils or blends of other exotic natural oils, each of which must be purchased in larger amounts at prevailing market prices. Because of the increase in manufacturing costs involved, our Designer Oils now require a five-pound minimum purchase per fragrance.

Is it true you sell oils to "XYZ Company?" What fragrances do they buy? I want to make an exact copy of their products.

Our customers are licensed businesses that range from some of the largest international fragranced-product manufacturers in the world, down to the smallest local "Mom and Pop" kitchen table company selling homemade products at your local craft fair. Chances are very good that every time you've shopped for candles, soaps, toiletries & cosmetics, potpourri, aromatherapy items, room fresheners, or many other scented products, you've seen, smelled, or held any number of products containing our fragrance oils. We respect the privacy of our customers, and we don't share their names or buying history with anyone else. We know you wouldn't want us to tell one of your competitors what you're buying from us, so we'll politely decline telling you what someone else is buying. The exception to that rule is when a customer makes it public knowledge that we are a fragrance supplier to their company.

At the present time we have about 4000 fragrances in our scent library. Each active formulation appears on our pricelists in the proper category, and more scents are added regularly, as our Perfumers release them. Each fragrance was designed to perform at the highest possible degree of quality in the specific product category and price point for which it was designed. Anything found on our pricelists that suits your needs and budget is available for purchase. It may or may not be the same scent that is being purchased by another company. We encourage each of our customers to become something in and of themselves, not try to be a copy of another company. Be innovative: Rather than focus on what the other guys are selling, why not focus on what YOU'D like to sell? Get in front and lead the parade, don't just march along in the crowd.

Do you sell candles, soaps, and other "finished" products?

No. Our finished products are the oils we sell in bulk packaging for you to use in the making of your own products. We do not make or sell soap or candles, and in the case of fragrances which are designed to be used without any further processing (e.g. essential oils, lamp ring oils, burner oils, or potpourri refresher oils), we do not supply those products in small bottles. Our oils are measured and sold by their weight in pounds. We don't sell anything by the ounce. Candle fragrances and Designer Oils require a five-pound minimum order per fragrance. Other oils are sold in one-pound minimums per fragrance.

Do you sell Crafter Grade oils? Can't you just dilute them for me to make them cheaper?

No. Our oils are made and sold at full-strength concentration, as our Perfumers designed them. There are companies selling fragrance oils who advertise their oils as being "manufacturer's grade," or "crafter grade," or "first cut," or as Grades A, B, or C. Some will even ask you how much you want to spend, and they'll dilute their products down to meet your price point. These companies use a variety of clever terms and practices, but the point is the same: They imply the oil is somehow better or different in those various "grades," and you can save money by buying one of the alternate versions. Some even claim it doesn't matter what "grade" of fragrance you use - that scented oil is scented oil.

In truth, anything that is being sold as something other than the full-strength oil, (as it was created by the manufacturer,) has been altered in some way. Normally, that means the oil has been diluted with some sort of solvent. The only reason anyone would want to deliberately dilute oils like that prior to selling them is to increase their own profits. For the low price of a pound of solvent, a full-strength oil can be cut by fifty percent, and one pound of oil becomes two pounds. Mark down the diluted oil by a third from its full-strength price, and it's easy money for the seller.

The unsuspecting or uneducated purchaser who buys those diluted oils then ends up making "triple scented" products, in an attempt to recreate the fragrance strength of the undiluted oil. This rarely works well, since the amount of any oil that can be added to a product is limited. If all they're adding is increasing amounts of solvent-laden diluted oils, their efforts can easily be a waste of their time and money. Their customers will be less satisfied with the performance of their products, and they can easily lose their business for repeat sales. We don't understand why anyone would want to buy a fragrance that is only half- or a third-strength of the way it was designed. That's like buying a car with only two or three tires. And why would anyone want to put all that solvent into their products? It doesn't contribute anything, and may actually be detrimental to the performance of the finished product they've worked so hard to make.

You are far, far better off to spend a few dollars more to buy undiluted, full-strength oils, and use them correctly. If your budget is very restrictive, just use less of the oil in your product. You'll still achieve the fragrance effect of the scent, it will just be a bit lighter in aroma concentration when compared to the same oil used at a higher percentage. The fragrance quality is exactly the same because it hasn't been cut with solvents.

When calculating how much oil is enough, it's simply mathematic. For example: If you normally have to use 10% diluted fragrance oil in a candle, try making one at 5% with an undiluted version of the same oil. Make them identical in all other ways. Light both wicks, and stand back. Compare the performance of the diluted oil to the full-strength oil in those two candles. You will find that every single time, you will prefer the undiluted oil. Why? Because it just works better. The fragrance effect is there in all its nuances, as it was designed by the manufacturer. The financial reward is there too: If you need to use twice as much of a diluted oil that sells for half the price of an undiluted oil, then using the full strength oil at half the percentage will equal exactly the same amount of money. In other words, a five percent concentration of an oil selling for $30 a pound costs exactly the same money as a ten percent concentration of an oil selling for $15 a pound. It's your money - how do you want to spend it?

Do you sell carrier oils, jars, wax, bottles, or other packaging or manufacturing materials?

No. All we sell are our compounded fragrance oils and essential oils, all of which are packaged in bulk containers. We don't sell pieces, parts, packaging, or other items required for making or packaging products for resale.

Do you offer free samples? Can I buy samples from you?

Our sampling program is intended for the exclusive use of existing customers and strong prospective clients. It is closely monitored to avoid abuses. We receive many requests per week from people who wish to obtain our oils for their private use, or to subsidize their home-based hobby. These people have no intention of ever purchasing anything from us. This not only defeats the purpose of the sampling program, it takes business away from our existing clients, and raises the prices legitimate customers pay. We reserve the right to provide samples only to those businesses we feel are prospective customers.

Why can't I buy your oils directly from your website?

We are a wholesale manufacturer selling business to business, with a hands-on approach. We do not engage in direct sales, and we don't sell our oils at retail. Ordering directly from the website might initially seem more convenient, but we have so many fragrances, and we introduce new fragrances so often, how would a customer know which was the right choice for their application?  By talking with our customers and getting to know their products, our Customer Service agents can make specific recommendations, such as a more suitable choice for the customer's project, or something that may be less expensive or more popular. Dealing directly with our clients one-on-one allows us to provide much better customer service and support. And that means happier customers, fewer problems, and a much better purchasing experience.

How long will it take to process my order?

Aroma Creations is a "make to order" company. We ship as soon as your order is completed and approved for shipment. Often this is within a day or two. But it could also require from five to ten working days, depending on what is being ordered, availability of specialized ingredients, and our backlog of previous orders from other customers. If you have a short or critical lead time, be sure to tell us when you place your order. We'll do all we can to help you meet your deadline. Please bear in mind that we aren't miracle workers - if you wait till the last minute to place your order, we may not be able to get it to you in time. Planning ahead is always best.

Are your fragrances concentrated?

Yes. In most cases they will need to be diluted or mixed with a product base. The level of fragrance you will need to use varies according to the product type, and what you're trying to produce: Typically, a face cream may contain only 0.01% fragrance by weight, while a soap bar might range from 0.5 - 3.0% fragrance. A good rule of thumb in candlemaking historically is to use an ounce of fragrance oil to a pound of wax, which delivers a 6% fragrance load. In recent years some popular candles may contain anywhere up to 10% fragrance or more, depending on the design, fragrance used, and manufacturing techniques. More fragrance oil does not always make a better candle, and may actually affect its burn quality and scent throw.

Due to the concentration of our oils, you'll find less oil is often required to get the same or better effect. This can directly translate into financial savings for you, since you'll often use less oil to achieve better results. This saves you money in the long run, when compared to lesser-quality oils. With each of our oils we strongly recommend you do thorough testing with the fragrance at different concentrations to find what works best in your products. The more you understand about the interaction of fragrance in your product formulations, the better products you'll make. If you need guidance about usage levels and its relation to cost savings, we can provide the information for most of our products. Ask your Customer Service agent when you call or write.

What are fragrances made of?

The advent of modern perfumery has allowed a much broader range of possibilities for the Perfumer. Specific aroma chemicals make possible fragrances never dreamed of in times past. But each fragrance is still a unique mixture. Some may be all natural oils, some may be all aroma compounds, and most will be a blending of the two, depending on their intended usage and the fragrance desired. Materials come from a broad spectrum of sources, and those ingredients may be different depending on the final product you require.   The final formulas are trade secrets.

The fragrance I want is not listed on your pricelists. Can you help?

Yes. The fragrances listed on our pricelists are just a portion of what we have available. When you call with your order, we may already have the fragrances you require in our library. If not, we will be happy to try and develop a new formulation to meet your specifications, based on a sufficient order quantity and other specific details. When in doubt, please ASK US what is available. We'll do all we can to help you make the right choices.

I need a particular kind of fragrance for a special project. Can you help?

Yes. When you are placing your order, tell your Customer Service agent of your special fragrance requirements. We will select fragrances for you which fulfill those criteria, even if the fragrance does not appear on our current price listings. A number of specialized fragrances have been retired from our active fragrance catalog, but they are still available for sale to fit specific needs. Remember, too, we can also evaluate your existing fragrance oils for possible duplication.

Can you supply a fragrance made from natural-based products?

Yes. Please state that you require a natural-based fragrance when you request a sample. Blends using natural oils can be very expensive due to the current market price of the naturals involved, and the complexity of the blend. Individual natural oils can fluctuate wildly in price over a very short period of time, and that affects our pricing for that blend.  Please ask us if you have any specific requirements, and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs.

Do your fragrances use inferior, synthetic materials?

No. The huge range of fine quality synthetic chemicals available to modern perfumers has increased the possibilities when creating formulations. Essential oils can vary hugely in cost, odor, and quality from season to season because of environmental factors in the country of origin, availability, and demand on the world market. Conversely, synthetic chemicals are particularly good for functional products because they offer reliable quality, ready availability, consistent performance, and generally more stable costs.

Are your fragrances water soluble?

No. Our fragrances are oily and don't mix with water.

Why do I need to know the application for which I intend to use your fragrances?

Simply put, one size does not fit all. We want you to get the very best performance from our oils, so we want to make sure you're buying the right oil for your project. You use different oils, bases, and other ingredients to create certain products for specific reasons, and the same applies to what we make and sell. Some fragrance oils intended for candles aren't safe for use on the skin, and may cause irritation if used incorrectly. Similarly, what works great in soap doesn't usually work as well in a candle, if at all. That's because one product is meant to be mixed with water and its lather spread on the skin, and the other is meant to smell good when it's lit on fire. How can you expect them to both be made of the same ingredients? Obviously, you can't.

Just because the candle wick stays lit or the soap bar makes suds doesn't mean the fragrance oil used is best suited for that purpose. The kind of chemicals that make great candles generally make poor soap, and vice versa. Our oils are created for specific target purposes, to provide the very best performance in those products. We want what you make to be exceptional, and that can only happen by providing you with the right oil for the right product.

I need a sample urgently, how long will it take?

Normally, samples are sent from available, limited on-hand quantities. We don't manufacture an oil just to fulfill a sample request. If the sample you require is urgently needed, please tell us. We will do what we can to expedite your request. If we need to develop a new formulation for you, then we can also tell you approximately how long it should take.

I'd like to blend your fragrances to create my own perfumes, is this possible?

Yes. Our fragrances can be blended with other fragrances from our same scent category, or with essential oils, to create your own unique blends. Doing your own custom blending can be extremely creative and fun. Who knows what marvelous fragrance combinations you may end up making? Please note that we most strongly advise that you don't mix our fragrances with those from other companies. Neither you nor we have any idea how those other scents are made, or what they contain, and unhealthy reactions may occur. For obvious reasons, we are not liable for any inappropriate use of our oils, or for any negative results that may occur.
